We provide help and hope to everyone living with dementia.

Story

Thank you for supporting me to take part in Memory Walk this year and raise much needed funds for Alzheimer's Society.

All of the money I raise will help support people living with dementia and their families, so your donation will make a huge difference.

Just £50 will pay for someone with dementia to go to a Dementia Café session every week for a month, where they can meet others, share experiences and feel less isolated. And the more I raise, the bigger the difference it will make.

MY STORY

There was always a certain level of confusion which was normal for mum after she suffered a stroke following the death of my father, but nothing like the unpredictability of dementia.  Mum has been able to live independently with Alzheimer's with the brilliant support of our local community, Stroud Care Services (Forget me not care), Adult Care, our family GP, Telecare, Meals on Wheels - not forgetting the support of neighbours and even the local shop - and perhaps many others who I thank wholeheartedly!

This is my way of giving something back to the Alzheimer's Society and of course my lovely mother who has looked after me all her life, it's time for me to look after her.

THE CHALLENGE

10K will be a challenge for me because in 2011 I was involved in a car accident which set my pelvis out of line.  In the beginning I wore a brace support under my clothes.  I had to learn how to walk and how to run again and I spent two years having physiotherapy and further following months with chiropractor treatment.

With the help and support of the guys at Active For Less they have got me back into my love of exercise and fighting fit.  This year I proved my strength to myself by climbing the highest mountain in England, Scarfel Pike!!

Now I want to take on a challenge that means something to me personally - so if you are up for a challenge - please join me!  And help me raise some money too for a worthy cause!! :D

WHY THIS CHARITY?

Dementia is something that runs in my family and tends to hit around the age of around 60.  At the moment, there are lots of "myths" in the press on how to prevent it but no known cure.
