Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Hi, my name is Hazel Frost and on 28 July 2012, along with my friend Emma Wynne-Hughes, will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of my Son; Darren Rhys Frost, who was killed in a road traffic accident on Boxing Day, 2009.

How does any parent deal with the loss of a child, at any age? He was my only child and when he died my world fell apart. I didn’t want to face another day without him and was completely numb of feeling, when the feelings did come back, there was so much pain that I wished they hadn’t. But I was lucky enough to have so many fantastic people around me. My family, friends and more importantly Darren’s friends that have all given me so much support (and still do), that I wanted to give something back and allow people who knew my son to be able to remember him the way he would have wanted.

Since then with the amazing support and help from Emma, family, friends and a wonderful community, I have been raising money for a Skatebowl in Bangor, North Wales, which was one of my son’s main passions in life.  This was achieved in 2011, with the official opening of the Darren Rhys Memorial Bowl on the 15 October. Emma and myself are climbing Kilimanjaro in order to continue raising money for other facilities to help others within the community but we also want to help Hope House/Ty Gobaith. A Hospice (Ty Gobaith being in North Wales) for terminally ill Children and their families to go to and relies heavily on donations to keep it running.

The money we raise will be through just giving and by sponsor form. This is because the fund I have set up for my son is not a charity and therefore unable to use gift aid. Ty Gobaith, which is the sister hospice of Hope House and based in North Wales is close to my heart, so I want to help them too. If you are able to help in any way, we would be so grateful.

Thank you again for taking the time to read this.

Kindest regards,

Hazel and Emma
