Story

I’m Kevin, for those who don’t know I have cystic fibrosis, a lifelong
genetic condition that can be life-shortening.
At this difficult time I have unfortunately been submitted into hospital
for a 2 week course of Intravenous antibiotics to try and eradicate a bug that
I now have. This bug Mycobacterium abscessus is hard to get rid of and needs
aggressive treatment. If it is not treated this could stop me from having a
lung transplant if needed in the future.

I do try and look after myself, I go running 2 – 3 times a week plus
boot camp style HIP fitness, so finding out I have this bug is a big shock.

As I am so active I’m going to find these two weeks in hospital very
hard. This will be followed by 8 weeks of self shielding where it is recommend
that I stay at home and don’t go out.

I’ve had a crazy idea to walk a marathon (26.2 miles) in the two weeks
while I am in hospital, just me walking around my room, what could be more
fun!  This will motivate me to keep moving,
give me something to do to keep my mind and body active.

I hope to raise awareness and some well-deserved funds for Heartlands
Cystic Fibrosis Centre.  By doing this I
hope something positive will come out of this situation

I’m aiming to walk around 2 miles in 2 hours per day in between the 3
Intravenous antibiotics that I have 4 times a day.

I plan to create a short video daily of my progress and how I’m feeling
to help raise awareness of cystic fibrosis and put a positive spin on the
current situation.

Thanks for your time, this was much harder than I thought it would
be.  I’m fit, healthy and look after
myself so I will get over this.

Please share and like to help spread the word, I’m sure your positive
comments will all help.  Also don’t forget
to click the link to my just giving page and donate.

Any donations will be greatly received and used to help keep the unit
going and help with the current room refurbishment to help make the hospital
says more manageable.

See you all soon.
