Story

Hi my name is Helen and I will be doing the London2Brighton challenge on May 25th 26th, I decided to do this for my brother in law and this is his story..please continue to scroll down after reading..Thank you xx

Enjoying life with my wife to be, family and Kia our pooch thinking aches and pains, getting up in the night more frequently were just down to maturing in age until the day a lovely PC charity lady Jenny gave me a PC awareness leaflet. 90% of the symptoms rang alarm bells, straight to doctors for PSA test, next day called back with positive result PSA 287, oncology appointment came for just two days before I was marrying my best friend! The day of appointment arrived and with a positive mind I attended the clinic, after numerous tests I was sat in the consultants room with Sally a nurse which now I know as my MacMillan nurse and now for the bombshell yes I have prostate cancer, I was numb, so many thoughts going through my head and already feeling for Juanita!
Further tests would be required to determine the severity. I explained I was to Marry in two days and fly on honeymoon for three weeks. With the right meds it would not get worse so bring on the best day of my life. PC was not mentioned and the wedding was perfect. On returning from honeymoon and more tests it was concluded that I have advanced PC which is terminal and so the chemo journey began. Now ten months later with tremendous support from all including Kia who would not leave my side I am now in remission with a PSA of 0.5 and enjoying life. I must say a huge thank you to my best friend, my rock Juanita my wife for ensuring we remained positive, laughed and smiled every day.
Let’s hope that one day through the PC charity and research a cure will be found and awareness will be greater amongst men. Who knows if I was aware and PC was caught earlier my journey may have been different and curable.
