Story

Myself, Ann MacPhee, Siobhan MacPhee, Selena MacPhee, Patrick Duffy, Joshua Watson and Liam Townsend are doing the Great Midlands fun run on Sunday 3rd June. We are raising money for John Taylor Hospice.

John Taylor cared for my mom in her final days with us. They were nothing short of amazing in one of the most difficult times of our lives. It’s very hard to know what is best for that person when they can no longer tell you where they would prefer to die. It’s a conversation we never had and I would imagine many other families do not. I always thought of hospices as being morbid and scary places. However the staff at John Taylor were just amazing. They made my 16 year old self feel comfortable in that environment. We were all given the chance over that week to sit there and say goodbye in what ever way we wanted. We even ended up having a little party around the bedside one night. Just the way my mama would have wanted it. The pain of these days never go away. It is such a privilege to be able to look back and know she was cared for, comfortable and in the best place for her. It’s really hard to put into words how fantastic these people are!

So that’s why we are running 8.5miles around the notoriously hilly Sutton Coldfield. I know you’ll be up there having a cuppa and cake watching us, mama (with Dad having an ice cold beer!) It would be just amazing if you could donate to us. I’m not a natural runner but I’ll give it a good go. End of life is something we aren’t prepared to talk about, something we tend to shy away from. John Taylor is there when we need it.  Thanks so much everyone (wish us luck!)
