Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If James Bulger had lived he would have turned 28 this year.  For the 28 days of February 2018 I will be running 5 kilometres every day to try to raise some money for the James Bulger Memorial Trust.  5k a day for 28 days means that I will run a total of 140 kilometres in the month.    I'm doing this because I'd like to help support the work the trust does in providing holidays and respite for young people who have experienced bereavement, crime or bullying or are a young carer.  I had the idea to do this after reading an interview that Denise Fergus, James’ mother, had given to a newspaper to mark 25 years since her son was killed.  I was so very moved by her description of what she and her family had endured and to learn about the work of the trust she set up in her son’s name.  What I read really stayed with me, I imagine it always will, and I wanted to find a way to contribute something to the work of her trust.  Those who know me know that I love to run, but my usual monthly distance these days is around 40-50 kilometres, so this will be a significant challenge for me and not a distance I would ordinarily clock up; the possibility of raising some funds for the trust will be what gets me out of the door to do this every day.  My 10 month old daughter will be joining me for many of the sessions wrapped up warm in her running buggy!  Thank you for reading my page.
