Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our appeal page and read Millie’s story.
Gorgeous Millie, a 7 year old female tabby, came into our care at the end of April 2019, as her owner was unable to cope with her change in behaviour during the previous couple of months. Millie was urinating all over the house and not using her litter tray.
The morning after coming into foster care Millie was taken to the vets where sadly it was discovered that she had a urine infection and was diagnosed with diabetes, which explained the changes in her behaviour.
This diagnosis has meant that Millie has had to have many trips to the vets for blood and urine tests, glucose curve tests and fructosamine tests to ensure her important twice daily dose of insulin is correct to stabilise her condition. She has been ever so patient while her diabetes has been stabilised; in the beginning these tests were carried out every few days, then they were only necessary every couple of weeks and they are now every six weeks. Hopefully after the next round of tests frequency will reduce further to every three months and then six months.
Millie is very much improved. Her coat is now in good condition, she is eating well and has stopped drinking the vast amounts of water that she used to drink. She is such a good little girl and doesn’t bother at all when she is given her injections twice a day, as can be seen from the very short video attached. Her patient and attentive fosterers ensure that she is given plenty of TLC and although she prefers not to sit on a knee, she comes for a stroke and will sit alongside them.
Of course all of the above treatment is expensive and, to date, this has cost Macclesfield Cats Protection in excess of £1,200 including all the tests, vets bills, insulin, needles and special diabetic food. Millie will need insulin, needles and a special diet for the rest of her life, together with regular vet checks.
We have launched this appeal for help with the cost of Millie’s treatment to nurse her back to health and assist in keeping her comfortable and happy. She has been such a star during the last few months as her condition has been stabilised and she really deserves your support. Please help us to help her. On Millie’s behalf, we will be eternally grateful to you!
If we are fortunate enough to exceed our target of £2000 any additional donations received will be used towards the treatment of other cats in our care.
