One of our patients Henk Van Der Graaf is aiming to complete his own version of a triathlon. Henk had a stroke 16 years ago and has some very significant ongoing physical problems which he has to deal with on a daily basis. Henk however is a remarkable man and someone never afraid of a challenge. When I mentioned to him last year the idea of completing an event he was very keen. Henk has some physical barriers where he is unable to use his left arm and hand and has to wear a splint for his left leg, this meant it was very evident he would not be able to run. At Hillview Physiotherapy we aim to give our patients every opportunity to achieve new things. With our new Neurological Physiotherapist Charlotte joining our team, between Charlotte and myself we were able to come up with a structured programme to enable Henk to achieve his ambition. We came up with his own version of a triathlon – the “Henktathlon” in which Henk will supplement his cycling and swimming sections with rowing instead of running. In total Henk will Row 10km, cycle 21km and swim 800 meters.
