Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Trust do a truly outstanding job of caring for Scotland's wildlife and have done so since 1986.

The last couple of years have seen over 3000 patients a year come to Hessilhead, all needing specialist handling and treatment for them to be released back to the wild.

With annual running costs in excess of £100000 a year, Hessilhead is dependent on donations, membership, sponsor-a-patient schemes and fundraising events.

Due to COVID-19, Hessilhead will be unable to hold their popular Open Day in June along with the 10K Race in August. Not only are these events very important from a fundraising point of view, but they have always been events where staff and supporters have enjoyed meeting one another. And particularly in the case of the Open Day, getting a chance to see the spring babies and facilities at Hessilhead.

As the Open Day would have been the 14th of June this year, we thought we could create a fundraising event to start on the 14th and last until July. S...Miles For Hessilhead 2020!

We are hoping that we can get Hessilhead supporters walking, cycling, running and smiling for Hessilhead!

Given Hessilhead patients come from every corner of Scotland and the many islands, the aim is to see how far round Scotland's coastline we can get...which is only 11185 miles (according to Marine Scotland)! £1 equals one mile!

But we also understand that some supporters may prefer to just give a donation, which would be greatly received too! You can run, walk, cycle or donate as much or as little as you want - although JustGiving's minimum donation is £2.

We would love to see pictures of you during your run, walk or cycle! Why not plan a family walk? And if you happen to have your Hessilhead t-shirts or hoodies from previous events, send us your smiles and pictures so they can go on Hessilhead's Facebook page! Even if you are just donating, please still send us a picture if you would like to do so! Details of where to send your pics will be in your donation receipt email. Keep an eye on your junk folder just in case you don't see an email to begin with.

As Hessilhead will miss seeing you all this year, for the next wee while, they're going to be posting on their Facebook page regular videos filmed especially for you! This will give you a glimpse into the busy life of Hessilhead, as well as letting you see some of the cute little spring babies that are there. Hopefully the babies will smile especially for the camera!
