Story
It goes without saying that good mental health is paramount for every child, teenager and young person, no matter their background. Unfortunately, the pressures that young people are facing is on an extraordinary rise. According to suicide.org, every 100 minutes a teenager takes their own life. Suicide is the third-leading cause of death for young people ages 15-24, and about 20% of all teens experience depression before they reach adulthood.
Signpost, a charity based in Hertfordshire, believe that this is simply unacceptable. Helping over 500 young people a year, they're on a mission to empower young people to find their voice and forge a better future for themselves.
The most common difficulties they help their clients overcome are:
- Problems with relationships in the home and at school
- Depression and anxiety
- Identity issues
- Addiction
- Coping with the impact of abuse, both physical and emotional
- Low self-esteem
- Living with a disability or disorder, including ADHD
- Coping with bereavement
To provide such a great service, they need funds, which unfortunately they are running very low on. In February, they reached out to over 400 people for fundraising support. They received only 2 responses. They receive no Government funding for young people over the age of 19 and are now being forced to introduce charges.
So please dig deep and donate whatever you can, whether it's £100 or £1. Please share this campaign with anyone and everyone, even if you cannot donate at this current time. You will make a massive difference to the lives of hundreds of young people and help to keep such a vital and significant community service alive.
