I have been a long term supporter of Hope House Children's Hospice and every few years do some a little different to try and raise much needed funding for this amazing establishment. This year in celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary, we decided to go on safari in the Serengeti and then visit Zanzibar. After planning the trip, one of our friends suggested that as we were already in Africa, why didn't we consider climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and as keen walkers we thought why not! So on the 24th October we fly out to Africa and along with 9 friends, we start the climb on the 25th and hope to reach the summit on the 30th. We are currently climbing the hills of Shropshire and mid Wales in training at every opportunity, but nothing can prepare us for the possible effects of altitude sickness, so fingers crossed that we make it.
