Story

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Just Giving Page.

I know this is not the first time I’ve asked for donations but 2022 marks the 12 year anniversary of my father’s passing. I had intended to do this long distance challenge in 2020 to raise much needed funds for Saint Catherine’s Hospice in Scarborough but as we all know, Covid had other ideas!!

Fast forward 2 years and the training is now in full swing. It’s not been an smooth ride (no pun intended) to get this far as I cracked my head open in January & I still suffer from intermittent vertigo but the last few long rides have given me the confidence that I CAN complete this challenge.

What will this challenge entail? Well, every time I do some fundraising, I like to set the bar a little bit higher to make sure you're getting value for money! So, on the 9th July I will set off from Seascale in my attempt to cycle 150 miles to Whitby in the day!!

Not only do I have to cover the extreme distance but there’s the added bonus of 4500m (14750ft) of ascent as the route heads through the Lake District, including the brutal climbs of Hardknott and Wrynose passes, the Yorkshire Dales and finally over the North York Moors to Whitby.

For a bird’s eye view of the route from the comfort of your own home, take a look at this video: Coast To Coast Video

Saint Catherine’s is a charity to support as they provide palliative care to hundreds of families throughout North Yorkshire and did a fantastic job of caring for my father back in 2010. In order to provide care, they rely on public donations to cover the running costs that amount to £11,000 a day and total a massive £6 million a year.

I appreciate that the last few years have been hard on us all and the current climate is not too rosy but please dig deep to help make a difference to those who live in our area who are suffering with a terminal illness. Your support will make a huge difference and every pound donated really does count. For example:

  • £20 could pay for an in-patient’s meals and
    refreshments for one day
  • £50 could pay for the Hospice at Home team
to visit a patient in their home
  • £200 could pay for a patient to attend the Wellbeing
    Centre for one day
  • £500 could pay for one In-Patient Unit bed
    for one day.

It will also help to motivate me during all the lonely training hours and to make it to Whitby. Thus making all the sweat, tears and sore legs/bum worthwhile.
