Genosis is a Health, Fitness and Performance organization. Our team has worked in many fields, including Neurological Rehabilitation.
As with most neurological diseases, there are good days and not so good days. Small gains are savored and built upon whilst small setbacks are reflected on in an objective manner. The greatest rewards come from the interaction with the patients themselves. The lessons learned from their strength and positivity in the face of adversity are frequent and often inspiring.
Motor Neurone Disease is tiring. For the patient. For their family and supporters. A tiredness that is endured but tiring none the less. The endless diary entries of specialist appointments at the hospital, physiotherapy at home, speech and language at another hospital, GP visits, specialist nurse assessments and on and on would be a logistical challenge for an able bodied individual, let alone a person with MND.
We have gathered a team of people to Bike, Kayak and Run 324km from the source of the River Seine into the center of Paris to raise a minimum of £25,000 to help fund a Multi-Disciplinary Service in London. Having access to all the professional knowledge and skills under one roof reduces the stress on the patient and family and has been shown to increase life expectancy. This gives patients back time. Time not spent in a waiting room. Time to live.
One of the inspirational people we have the pleasure of being associated with is a man named Eric Rivers. The work that Eric and his family have done on raising awareness of Motor Neurone Disease is well known and we are very proud to be working with them. Eric is the face of The InSeine Challenge and you can learn more about his story by following him on Twitter @rivooh.
