Story
2020 - A year we will never forget. It makes you look at things from a new perspective. I wanted to try and remember something good from 2020 so when I came across the Virtual Run NI challenge - the 'Titanic 269km Challenge', I thought this was a sign (given that I work for Belfast Harbour). It was going to be tough but not as tough as 2020 has been on a lot of people. A self confessed non-runner, only starting 'Mothers and Others Couch to 5k' at the end of last year, I figured 'Go big or go home'.
I decided that this challenge could raise much needed funds for a very important charity - Brainwaves NI.
Brainwaves NI is a small brain tumour charity in Northern Ireland dedicated to providing support and information to those affected by a brain tumour. They also raise vital funds for research.
This charity does fantastic work in Northern Ireland and unfortunately do not feature in our everyday awareness until we need their services. Any amount of money you could donate to Brainwaves NI would be greatly appreciated.
In terms of this challenge, I didn't think I could do it, but now I am on the home stretch with only 60km left to complete. I would like to finish the challenge in the next couple of weeks with the aim to donate any funds raised in time for Christmas. Once completed, 269km will equate to over 6 marathons or running from Lisburn to Galway since September. Not bad for a non runner.
Thank you for considering to donate and let's hope 2021 is the best year yet!
