Story
Dear Friends,
Many of you know one of my personal…and, let’s face it…partially insane goals has always been to run all six Abbott World Marathon Majors. With Chicago, Boston, New York City, and most recently Berlin checked off the list, only London and Tokyo remain!
I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to run the 2024 TCS London Marathon as a member of Asthma + Lung UK’s Team Breathe. Asthma + Lung UK is an incredible foundation that pours countless dollars into lung research that improves the lives of so many patients with advanced lung diseases.
As it turns out, 1 in 5 of us will have some kind of lung condition during our lifetime. In fact, there's a new diagnosis made every minute. I have the privilege of practicing as a transplant pulmonologist at NYU Langone Health in New York City. Every day, I meet courageous and inspiring patients who are left with the difficult decision of proceeding with a life-changing lung transplant or dying from their disease. More often than not, this is because prior treatment regimens have failed to make them better.
Even as an increasing number of patients worldwide are being diagnosed with once-thought-to-be-rare conditions such as pulmonary fibrosis, treatment options for many pulmonary diseases have remained relatively stagnant. I am running the London Marathon with Asthma + Lung UK’s Team Breathe in an effort to raise money for crucial research that I hope will change the landscape of how we care for those afflicted with a variety of lung conditions.
As a member of Team Breathe, I have set a lofty fundraising goal of $4,000. I would be so incredibly grateful for any of your contributions to this cause, no matter how great or small. And to those who decide to donate, thank you so much for standing with me in support of this incredible organization.
