We support people with Aniridia to Be confident supported and well informed

Story

Hi,  I took the plunge and went into orbit!

I've not done any sponsored feats since childhood so I hope you'll support me now.

I'm raising money for eyesight saving research into the rare genetic condition aniridia.

Because I am one of the few people to have this visual impairment aniridia, every year I go to the world renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital for a check-up.

As well as expert doctors, behind the scenes, there are brilliant teams investigating possible treatments to preserve or improve the sight of children and adults with the condition.

Through being a trustee of the charity Aniridia Network UK I've met many of them, for example, Julie Daniels and Mariya Moosajee. We've heard of the amazing progress they have made and hopes for the future regarding cornea disease and stem cells. I've even provided my eyes for their experiments.

I've seen the huge difference these medical advances make too, personally with my recent cataract surgeries and from meeting fellow patients.

Now with your help, I can help financially too. Moorfields Eye Charity have provided the incredible opportunity to jump off the towering ArcelorMittal Orbit sculpture in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Thankfully, I safely slid down a rope the equivalent of 26 storeys, I even remembered to channel Rod Stewart and sing 'We are abseiling' as I did so!

I needed to raise at least £250 which went to Moorfields Eye Charity via Aniridia Network. Donations over that amount were split half and half between the two charities.

You can donate here  - its is simple, fast and totally secure.
You can also give me your donation in person if that suits you better

Alternatively, in the UK you can also text iris00 followed by a space and your amount to 70070. The amount can be either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10. For example iris00 £5

If you are UK taxpayer please, when prompted, please Gift Aid your donation to make it worth £25% more!

Anything you can give will be very gratefully received, by the eager scientists as well as everyone with aniridia, including the newborn and their hopeful parents.
