Story

Post Pals is struggling to raise funds and we want to help! Everyone knows how much I love to colour my hair, think I’m known for all my wacky hair colours. So what can I do to help PostPals?
SHAVE ALL MY HAIR OFF!!😱Not only that but my 62 YEAR OLD MUM IS GOING TO JOIN ME and have hers ALL SHAVEN OFF TOO! 😱BUT only if we raise enough for Post Pals will we do this!! ( it’s not something I thought id ever do, and with my Mum too. Crazy! I love my bright coloured hair, and what a supportive Mum I have!) But we are doing this because we are a Mother and a Grandmother to a beautiful inspiring child with a life threatening condition. We know how much charity’s like Post Pals can lift spirits and keep us fighting and help us go on with the worries of caring for a child when you don’t know how long you will have your child in your life.
For all the Post Pals families we want to do this with your help.
Post Pals is a small charity run solely by volunteers who are dedicated to making children with life threatening and terminal illnesses and their siblings smile by the sending of cards, letters, little gifts, support and friendship. They support children aged 3 to 17 in the UK.
It was set up in 2002 by teenagers who were all ill themselves. Vikki George had the idea after finding that receiving cards in the post was the only thing that made her smile when bedbound and isolated. Even today, Post Pals is still run from beds and hospital beds.
The concept is simple… they feature children on their website with a forwarding address, their interests and stories, and invite members of the public from around the world to log on and send cheerful post.
Post Pals also send post throughout the year too and arranges the occasional day out or wish grant known as “Extra Smiles” as well as hosting an annual party for all Post Pal families and supporters, at last years party They released Butterfly’s for all the Post Pals children that have passed away. A Butterfly was released for each child.
The charity use the term “Pals” to refer to the seriously ill children and teenagers they help. They believe it is very important to include siblings as they can often feel very left out as their ill sibling gets more attention, and can also in some cases be separated from their Mum or Dad for a long period of time if their sibling is in hospital. We have experienced this, being apart is heart wrenching at such worrying times.
Post Pals want siblings to feel they are just as important as the Pal.
Due to the low funds they have had to make the difficult decision to put a hold on the following projects:
-Wishes
-Post Pals Star Awards (beautiful trophies to give all children including siblings a boost and celebrate something about themselves)
-Fingerprint necklaces and keyrings for all parents who have a child with a life threatening condition. They will try to continue this for Pals in their final weeks
Reducing the following;
-Halving the budget for the monthly Extra Smiles gift
-Making Stuff in a box every other month.
-Reducing down TLC boxes
Other schemes and projects are being effected too.
They posted a gift to Our daughter when they heard we had to cancel her birthday weekend. This had been booked for months and was cancelled because our son was rushed to hospital by ambulance, Our daughter woke up excited, all suitcases waiting packed by the front door, only to find out we couldn’t go. A gift from Postpals of a Disney Stitch t-shirt brought a smile to her face. Them knowing her interests and getting to know each child to make it that bit more special. My children get regular treats and post organised by this charity and it makes our children so excited and we appreciate the friendship this charity brings. They make us feel cared for, Support us all as a family and we want to help them. I’ve seen the many wonderful things they do for the Post Pals families and for those who have lost their children. Let’s get this wonderful small charity’s name out there! Can anyone help us help them by sponsoring me and my Mum to have our hair all shaved off! We will only do this if our goal of £10000 is reached. If not all the money raised will still go to the charity.
