Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.Macmillan Cancer Support are here to help you find your best way through from the moment of diagnosis.
A few years ago, cancer hit my family hard. Out of the blue, my grandpa, who is the strongest person I know, was sadly diagnosed with this horrific disease. I watched my grandpa go through everything. He is my best friend, and his favourite hobby you guessed it, is horseracing. As my brother is a jockey, we have travelled all over the country as a family. If we can’t get to the races, it is recorded at home and we all sit and watch. My grandpa has watched every race no matter how weak or strong he feels. He has well and truly got the racing bug, and over the past couple of years, he has been asking me when it was going to be my turn! Without telling anyone I decided (with a little help from my dad) to do something to make a difference.
I decided to apply for the Macmillan Ride of Their Lives which takes place every June at York Racecourse. We all know so many people who have been affected by cancer in some way, and by raising money for this wonderful charity, we can help those who need it the most. When I got the phone call to say I had been successful, guess who was the first person I called? I think I made his year- and we are only in January! The next day he took me to Malton to have my meeting with Racing Welfare and he smiled all the way there and back.
So now the difficult part for me- getting fit! I have a condition in one of my legs, however I will not let that beat me. I plan to ride out for David Thompson in the run up to the day and continue my eventing on my three horses. My keep fit and running will also continue.
Any donations would be massively appreciated, the team at Macmillan do not get the recognition they deserve. A big thank you must also go to Walworth Castle Hotel, they have been so accommodating with my shifts and I am so grateful!
Thank you for reading, and together I hope we can make a difference.
I hope to do you all proud 😊
