As some of you may, or may not know, I was diagnosed a few years ago with a very rare eye condition called Birdshot Chorioretinopathy. I have been receiving care from the ophthalmic teams and specialist units at Moorfields and  The Norfolk & Norwich Hospital.

As a rare disease, there has been very little investment into research, and there is currently no cure for this condition. Treatment to control the disease involves steroids or immunosuppressants, which can cause their own issues. 

Fitness has played a major role in trying to tackle my autoimmune condition.  At the start of 2018, I decided to challenge myself to walk 1000 miles and raise money for the Birdshot Uveitis Society. I am now nine tenths of the way. Many thanks to my kind friends (and long-suffering family ;-)).

If you feel able to donate, all the money will be going into the Birdshot Uveitis Society. The charity is run by volunteers. It provides information and support for sufferers, as well as providing all important research.

My walk so far has taken me along the full length of the North Norfolk coastal path, as well as large sections of the of both the North Cornwall coastal path and the Route Vicentina on the Atlantic coast of Portugal. I can recommend any of these, as the stunning scenery and changing seasons make me increasingly thankful for my ability to still see and explore these wonderful sites for myself.
