A few years back our lovely Nan started loosing her way. 

It started with no longer being able to work out how to use the remote control. To leaving food in the oven for days at a time. To making random dinner concoctions - my personal fav was the era of Chicken Tikka Pasta Bake. 

At first, we thought it was age. She was just getting a bit forgetful. 

But then she started wandering late at night, found in the middle of town confused that is was 3am and not 3pm when her doctor's appointment was. She started believing the TV was real life, and that the cast of Holby City were in fact in her living room. She was ill a lot, because she no longer understood the meaning of best before dates. 

When her dementia diagnosis came, and her condition worsened, it felt like we'd begun to grieve for someone who's still here. 

Because as much as she's here in body, she's somewhere very different in mind. 

So, I'm running the marathon to raise money for Alzheimer's Society to help raise awareness and funding for research into this heartbreaking disease. 

So hopefully we can find a way to stop people forgetting the amazing lives they've lived. 

Here's to Nan. 

Who may think I'm her sister. Or her Mum. And will have no idea that I'm doing this. 

But who would have had a good ol' chuckle back in the day at the thought of me panting my way round London.
