Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Asbestos does not discriminate. It can take 50 years for fatal cancer to start with symptoms only showing at later stages. This is usually to late to be able to do anything about it. The only treatment is chemotherapy that will buy you 2 to 3 months extra time. Without it the prognosis is 6 to 9 months. It is always fatal. In the later stages Mesothelioma spreads throughout the body causing unimaginable pain and suffering for weeks or months. You only need to breath in 1 fibre and that could be it. Essentially you are a ticking time bomb.

Teachers, shipbuilders, joiner, plumbers, and even wives who have washed their husbands clothes and children who have cuddled their daddies have been victims.

The picture is me and my dad giving me away at my wedding. 6 weeks on my dad has lost his battle. It was the most horrendous agonising death that slowly suffercates it's victims in agonising pain.

He was exposed to asbestos in 1967 while working as a joiner in Rochdale. A dust mask at the cost of a couple of pence could have saved his life. He's spent the last 6 weeks slowly dying in agonising pain, bed ridden and needing 24 hour care from my mum.

I would like to raise money for Mesothelioma UK charity, who has funded medical travel and helped with benefits, lawyers and support at the most horrendous time of our lives. Please help the next victim of this cruel disease.

Thank you from our heart.

Joanna and family. X
