Story

2019 update!!! We are back with our second family - hopefully a short stay but all we can do in the meantime is try to help them back. Scary place to be but walking into people we know so we’ll still doing their jobs brilliantly makes it all so much easier!!

Quick update for those familiar with wingwalk. We’ve had a wonderful year and a half at home with a very well child. He’s back in Bristol Children’s hospital for hopefully a short time and I always like to try to fundraise when we are here - they’ve been saving lots of other children since our last visit and deserve a thank you. I’d like to finally reach my target if you can help please do.

For those of you who don't know my son Al, he is a feisty and determined 13 year old boy.  He also has a life limiting condition.  The team at BCH saved his life four years ago and continue to patch him up well and enhance his life every time we come here.

He has been in now for six and a half weeks and had a life enhancing/saving operation.  He has a really long road ahead of him still in terms recooperation time, and more possible surgery so please help me thank these awesome people!

Every team member at BCH has a part to play, from our favourite consultants (you know who you are - I won't out you totally - DF, JF, EC), Doctors, nurses, receptionists, discharge teams and cheeky chats with housekeeping and the porters.

The team who get little recognition (I like to call them the grim reapers - although they are far from it!) is the Palliative care team.

I'm hoping to persuade them to call themselves the 'Fluffy Unicorn Team' or something a little 'cheerier'. Anyway, they keep us sane each time we visit, they make sure we are ok, that Alex is getting everything he needs and will also give people a little prod if something needs doing.

Just because you see the palliative team, it doesn't mean you're child is about to shuffle off, it just means they won't live as long as a human should.  And when you meet the team, you probably already have that information.

They make me laugh when times are hard, answer any of the weird questions I have (and I really do) and help me put things in place so Alex is always comfortable and happy - regardless of our reason for admission.  You may never need them, but my goodness when you do, they are a lifeline.

I would like to raise money for them, for the support of parents who are losing or have lost children and for the Grand Team here on ward 30 and ICU that are some of the most hardworking, authentic and amazing human beings I've ever met.

So anything raised with be split between them as they see fit.

I will be wing walking too on August 2nd at 1:45pm! At the Rendcomb Airfield in Cirencester.  Please come and see.
