Story

30/12: so happy to have reached target! What a great end to the year :)

***final fast day: Sunday 29th December***

Wow! 90% of target! Absolutely delighted :) One fast day left ♡

I'm getting ready for an immense food challenge - in reverse!  I will skip one entire day of food every week in 2013, and donate the money I would have spent on it to this fundraising project.  That's 156 meals.  Please could you sponsor me the cost of just one meal?

In October 2012 I read an article in The Independent.  In a nutshell: failing harvests have caused world grain prices to rise so high that families in poorer countries are being forced to schedule "food-free days" each week.  Foodless days have become a way of life for some families... while I still spend two hours deciding what kind of sandwich might be exciting.

I didn't know this before I read the article, but since then I have learned a lot about the world's food supply problems and the impact that it has on the nutrition of developing nations, as well as the problems that we have begun to face with our own country's bad harvests in recent years.

So, I thought there must be plenty of people who don't know about this either, and I hope that by spending 2013 fasting for one day each week, more of you might think a little more on these issues - and help me raise some money at the same time.  All sponsorship raised through this page will go to Save the Children, who are working worldwide to improve nutritional conditions.  I will also be doing my best to raise awareness for the Earth Policy Institute, who are dedicated to planning a sustainable future whilst increasing awareness of issues such as food scarcity.

How much time do you spend choosing your food?  Selecting a bottle of wine?  How much do you spend on your lunch?  Please sponsor me the cost of ONE meal to help me raise money for this project and I will skip 156 meals next year.
