Hi my name is Joe Kemp I have a disability called Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) which I was born with. It is a condition that causes muscle weakness over time. It mean that I am unable to move my body without assistance so I rely on carers for everything.
I've been helped by SpecialEffects over the last couple of years. The first time they helped me was because I was finding it very difficult to use my computer because of my disability. SpecialEffects came to assess what I needed and they knew instantly what I needed so they lent me the equipment I needed until I got funding to purchase my own.
The second time they helped me I was wanting to get back to playing games on my PlayStation which I used to love playing until my disability stopped that. so they came to assess what would be best for me. This was harder than the first time for them to solve but they managed to get me playing games on my computer that was until 2020 when unbelievable SpecialEffects managed to find a solution for me to play my PlayStation again for the first time in over 11 years and luckily for me that was the time I was shielding so it gave me something to do during that time
So from Friday the 26th of February over 3 days I will doing a 24 hour gameing marathon to raise money for SpecialEffects because I know what a big difference they make to young disabled people's lives
Thousands of people want to experience the fun, magic and inclusion of video games, but their disabilities stop them from joining in.You can help SpecialEffect level the playing field and truly change lives. By sponsoring my GameBlast 21 gaming challenge, you'll be helping Gamers' Charity SpecialEffect to find new ways for people with disabilities to play. You'll be funding the expertise, assessments, equipment and lifelong support that will bring joy, self-confidence and a degree of independence into the lives of hundreds of people. If you love games, help us level the gaming playing field for everyone!
Thank you so much for reading my story and hope you can help me raise funds for this wonderful charity
Thanks again
Joe Kemp
