British Thyroid Foundation

We support people with thyroid disorders to improve care and awareness in the UK

Charity Registration No. 1006391

25 Years ago, I was born and in this same year, the British Thyroid Foundation were established to support those affected by thyroid diseases. It also just so happens that I was born with Congenital Hypothyroidism, this means that I do not have a Thyroid gland.

I have lived my life whole life with this condition and life hasn't always been easy, I had an awesome childhood and developed well until I reached the age of 15 when I experienced just over 3 years of illness.

In 2017 I became a trustee of the British Thyroid Foundation and it is my aim to raise as much awareness as possible around childhood thyroid disorders and the real dangers that they pose when things go wrong but also to show that if the condition is well controlled that we can live life to the full.

In this our 25th Anniversary, I am in a thankful to say that I am able to give back some of the help I received, I will be attempting the Five@25 challenge. These will be spread along 2018, including;

- Dore to Mam Tor - Sat Oct 13th 2018

Completed -

- Sheffield Half Marathon - Sunday 8th April 2018

- Bungee Jump - Saturday May 19th 2018

- Yorkshire 3 Peaks - Saturday 23rd June 2018

- Skydive - Saturday July 14th 2018

- Triathlon - August 2018

The money raised through sponsorship will help fund the British Thyroid Foundation Children’s project. This helps all children affected by thyroid disease from across the UK have access to resources to control their condition though evidence based medical support.

I hope that through these I can encourage all children with thyroid disease or any illness. I also intend to raise as much awareness of thyroid disease as possible as it is still a somewhat unknown area. Please do sponsor me in this effort and support me. I hugely appreciate your support and I know that the children and parents that I work with will appreciate it even more,

Thank you for reading my profile and please spread the word, I will keep you updated!

Joe :)
