Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my just giving page.
In May 2018, I received the devastating news that my mum was terminally ill with Pancreatic Cancer. Sadly, on 26 January 2019, my mum lost her fight. When Mum was diagnosed, we all felt helpless. It's difficult to put into words how vicious and debilitating this cancer is and nothing could have prepared us for the pain Mum was in throughout her battle, especially during her final weeks.
The grief is so tough. You can't feel it all in one go, gradually it creeps in and sometimes it rushes in and overwhelms. Every time Freddie smiles or Isabelle says something funny or wonderful, my heart aches as she loved them so much. We were so lucky to have her and be surrounded by her love. I miss her so much.
For all of mum's life she helped & cared for people. A nurse for her whole career (from the age of 17), she was selfless & loved caring for others.
I always look back and wonder if things could have been different if we had known the symptoms better. When Mum went off her food (very unlike Mum), had abdominal pains, unexplained weight loss and indigestion, we would never have thought it was anything sinister. I only wish I had known the symptoms and could have done something sooner.
I am running the VLM 2021 on 3rd Oct to take raise awareness and valuable funds for this awful disease, and of course in memory of my wonderful Mum and fantastic Nain.
One of the scariest things about Pancreatic Cancer is the low survival rate and that it is so under funded and underpublicized. There has been very little progress in early identification or a cure for this terrible illness in 40 years.
PCA is dedicated to saving lives by improving early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and the quality of patient survival. With your help they fund vital research, create medical education programmes, produce national awareness campaigns and vital patient information.
Thank you so much xxx
