Epilepsy Action is creating a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy, connecting people with others, and providing support and information you can trust. We’re calling out the misunderstanding, prejudice and barriers that stop people with epilepsy living their best life.

Story

As many of you are aware my son Thomas recently spent two weeks in Sheffield Northern General burns department after badly burning his back in the bathroom from the result of an epileptic seizure.

Thomas had two more seizures that day. One in the ambulance and one in Accident and Emergency. Resulting in a spell in Resus, then overnight in The High Dependency Unit.

He was then transferred to Sheffield, once stable to the specialist Burns department

It was incredibly scary and an emotional time for all of us. His Mum Carmen and husband John and their family, and Nicky and Myself and our family.

Things like this do make you think. The 18 hours straight sat by his bedside makes you think a thousand things, but mainly Why? and then How? How can we make it better or easier.

So I am going to compete in at least 11 fell running races in and around Derbyshire over the next year. 10 of these are part of the Gritstone Series. In total I will be running roughly 100 miles it's going to be incredibly challenging as navigation around these courses is not easy and certain safety equipment is required for some events. The first event I am doing is the Lost Lad fell race on my 42nd Birthday on the 28th September. My knees aren't great from two operations in the past so I may hobble my way around some of the events but I want to to raise awareness for Epilepsy to help people with Thomas's condition.
