Story

Dear All

Thank you so much for your support for my ride this year in the London 100. It is safe to safe that this is a very spectacular event if not a little over subscribed with riders, some of whom seemed to not have the experience or the training necessary to complete this ride successfully!!

In hindsight I should have predicted a better completion time than I put on the entry form as I was put in the second from last group out. My eventual start time was 8.48 with riders going off from about 5.30am. The first 37 miles went really well with an average speed of 17.72 mph.

It was then that I hit trouble, an incident ahead which required ambulance assistance brought us to a stand still. So much time was lost that although I completed the really gruelling Leith Hill, the organisers prevented me from completing the much acclaimed Box Hill. The result of this was that I was only allowed to do 94 miles.

The last ten miles I completed at an average speed of 19.26 mph so the adrenalin must have been really pumping! The finish down the Mall was spectacular, unfortunately her majesty was not on the balcony to see me home!

Congratulations to my great friends Graham Mann and David Gowing who had an earlier start time and were allowed to complete the full 100 miles and a big thank you to my family who supported me on the day.

Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

In 2018 I lost my mother and my mother-in-law within three weeks of each other. Both suffered from dementia in different ways and unfortunately you lose your relatives some time before they actually pass away. Its like saying goodbye to strangers, so sad.

Thank you for your time and support.

John
