Story

Tough Mudder Season 2018

Last year I took on a challenge with a few people to try and raise some funds to help buy my Godson Jack, who suffers from certain development issues and seizures, a special bed. The challenge was to complete a Tough Mudder.

If you don’t know what this is, it’s basically a massive assault course which was initially developed by some ex-naval guys and is generally over a distance of between 10-12 miles, depending on location. It involves tons of mud, a skip full of ice, and 10,000 volts of dangling electrical cables to name just a few of the many obstacles.

We ran the East Midlands course up at Belvoir Estate on the Leicestershire/Nottinghamshire border, and due to various injuries along the way (all happening to one person) we eventually made it round in about 4 hours. Thankfully we raised the money and made the purchase!

I knew I could do better than 4 hours though since we did spend a fair amount of time stood around the medical tent. I decided to try it again and signed up for the course at Badminton Estate in Gloucestershire in August 2017. I ran with just two other people this time though, my friends Warren and Gemma. No injuries occurred, and we made it round in 2.5 hours, and I was very happy with that time.

Warren convinced me though that I could do better again, and he talked me into signing up to do a full season with him this year, so I purchased a season ticket…

This year there are 11 Tough Mudder weekends over 8 locations, which are London West, Midlands, Scotland, London North, Yorkshire, South West, North West, and London South. My aim is to run each location at the very least, but I’m planning for each weekend. Some weekends run over both Saturday and Sunday and I will be doing both days where I can. For more information on Tough Mudder events and dates, you can look them up here.

I’m also aiming to complete a double lap at the South West event (as it’s my local event), why I don’t know, but I am. Again, this is something I got talked into; I’m guessing I must be easily persuaded.

My employer, Kendall Kingscott, proudly support the charity organisation Above & Beyond who in turn raise funds for Bristol City Centre hospitals, and I want to help them raise as much as possible throughout the course of the summer Tough Mudder season.

If we could kindly ask for your support, as much as you could give would be appreciated. In return for your hard-earned donations, I plan to get very bruised, muddy, cover approximately 15 circuits (about 165 miles), and do my best to not take injury too early on! I will also be blogging before and after each event so keep an eye on this page, also the Kendall Kingscott website, and for those of you with access, the KK intranet.

Finally, if any of you reading this fancy a challenge, why don’t you come along and join me for one of them?

Thanks for reading my story, all donations will be hugely appreciated!!
