Story

Hi everybody,

I do hope that you are all keeping well in these current circumstances.

Thank you for the really kind donations received so far.

I am aiming to complete the 2021 London Marathon on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021 for 'Missing people', mental health and well-being.

I am Assistant Headteacher at Campion School in Leamington Spa.

Missing People is a charity in England, Wales and Scotland which aims to raise money for adults and children who go missing from home because of mental health and well-being issues. Currently, every 20 minutes somebody goes missing because of mental health, illness or depression. I have had the privilege of working with young people for many, many years. I would now like to support not only those who I work closely with on a day to day basis at Campion school, but also on a national level by fundraising in order to help and support others  with issues in life that they may be facing.

I believe that it is important to support this charity at this particularly
challenging time, this is for both adults and children. My focus is
particularly thinking of children and young people from a pastoral care
perspective in order to show them that, no matter how serious or difficult specific issues in life may be, there is always help and support on offer in order to help everybody feel safe, happy, confident and successful.

I am aiming to raise £5000 for this charity. This will be via advertising in the local area; advertsing in the Leamington Spa Courier, through old university friends in Sunderland, local friends, relatives and neighbours, via my football team and through fundraising events at my school.

I did complete the 2004 Flora London Marathon for Multiple Sclerosis. At that time I raised £3500 thanks to the help and generosity of close friends, family, local businesses, my football team and in the school that I worked at during this time: Ashlawn School in Rugby. My Father suffered with MS, hence my reasoning for supporting this charity at the time. He, very sadly, passed away on 28th December 2018 aged 80. I am forever grateful for the support that he received via the MS society, paramedics and the health service throughout this period, enabling him to still enjoy a quality of life.

It is my aim to complete the London Marathon on October 3rd in a time between 3 hours and 40 minutes and 4 hours and 20 minutes!!!!

I thank you for your help and generosity in supporting me to achieve this goal.

A non-uniform day took place at Campion School on Friday 16th July.  A total of £440.00 was raised thanks to the kindness and generosity of the fabulous Campion students. This will be added to the justgiving page on Friday, July 30th.

I have been overwhlelmed with the generosity of the Campion School parents following my letter to inform them of the London Marathon and the charity etc. Thank you so much for your kind support.

July 25th - Training has been going really well (Even during the heatwave last week). I have picked up a bit of a knee injury which was sustained yesterday (Saturday, 24th July) when running through a very rural setting. I'm taking a few days off from training now so that I can recover fully and pick up the training again by midweek 28th/29th July. The longest run that I need to undertake will be on Saturday, September 4th (Which would have been my dear dad's 83rd birthday) this is a run of 3 hours and 30 minutes!!!! They get shorter after that, leading up to the big day itself: Sunday October 3rd.

28th July - Training will begin again this afternoon. A few days recovery from last Saturday seems to have done me the world of good. 8 mile run today with 15-16 planned for the weekend!!!!

22nd August - Return from a fabulous 2 week holiday today. Training is going to be tough for the next week or so. An hour planned every day and a 3 hour next weekend!!!!

10th September - Deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of my great colleague from Campion School (Peter Rossiter - Teacher of Music) who sadly passed away from complications with Covid in August aged just 39. Remembered fondly by us all. RIP Peter.

11th September - 21 mile run completed today through the streets and town of Leamington as well as through the villages or Offchurch and Hunningham. I am really pleased to have achieved this and now feel ready to take on the big challenge in just 3 weeks time!!!!

29th September - Final training run today. 5 miles, seems comparatively short compared to recent weeks. I will be meeting with the other members of the group who are also running for 'Missing People' on Friday, together with David Warne from the charity itself. I'm really looking forward to it now.

Number : 38964

Start Time on Sunday : 10.00am

Predicted Time : 3 hours and 55 minutes (This is the prediction from the App based on my training. I still think that it will be over 4 hours, but you never know!!!)

Thank you for taking the time to read this

With very best wishes
