We inspire children and young people to engage positively in their communities

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Running is clearly in my genes, so is being a little bit bonkers which is why my dad and I decided to step up and take on the 10 in 10 challenge. In a nutshell, we will be running 10 marathons in 10 days in May 2018 around the beautiful but "undulating" Windermere Marathon course (that's 262 miles over the 10 days)!

My dad, Gary, and I will be the first father and daughter duo to take on the challenge and it is all in aid of the Brathay Trust. The Brathay Trust improve the life chances of children, young people and families by inspiring them to engage positively in their communities. Not only do they provide life changing opportunities for disadvantaged young people, they also provide support to the youngsters and their families. Whilst they are based in the Lake District, they help young people all across the UK.

Whilst we are seasoned runners, we have not taken on such a challenge before and this will completely push us to our physical and mental limits.

We both have our own personal issues to deal with and overcome. I am not your usual athlete - I am a curvy, middle aged runner who has a tendency to treat myself for running with cake (this is not the diet of a finely tuned running machine). My training also includes a trampoline fitness class! In order to succeed, I know I need to change my ways! My dad is a diabetic and this has presented some cracking challenges over this last year but thankfully, they appear to have now sorted his meds and he is back to beating me in races. We still both have a way to go but we are determined to give this our best shot.

My dad is the only person who has run all previous Windermere Marathons so there is added pressure on him to complete the challenge in order to maintain this incredible streak!

The challenge begins now and we are under no illusion that it will be easy. We know it will be an extremely tough but an incredibly rewarding journey.

Please support us on our journey. Any donations made to the Brathay Trust are gratefully received and truly appreciated.
