Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Thanks to research, the chances of surviving cancer have doubled in the last 40 years and it is to this end that on 6 June 2015 we are holding a 'Cancers No Joke' Charity Comedy Night, to raise funds for the UHNS Clinical Cancer Trials Unit.

Our event has been prompted by the loss of my truly inspirational Mum, Pauline Maughan.  In May 2012 Pauline passed away at the age of 46 after a long, 12 year battle with cancer. She left behind a loving husband Andrew, two sons, Josh & Ryan and a close knit family at which she was the centre. Despite being seriously ill, she lived life to the full and managed to enjoy so much in her 46 years. She was a dedicated teacher at Etruscan Primary School who never failed to enable her children to achieve far beyond what was expected.

Dr Murray Brunt was the oncologist who cared for Pauline; he is a leading specialist in the fight against cancer and his research into breast cancer and skin cancer at the UHNS and The Nuffield Health Private Hospital is proving to be ground breaking. Dr Brunt treats each patient as if they are the only ones in his care and works ‘with’ his patients trialling new treatments.  Of course this research is costly and this is where we come in.

Our event will commemorate what would have been her 50th Birthday in June and the event for those who loved and knew her will be a celebration of her and her life.  For those who did not, this is a great opportunity to raise funds for a truly worthy cause whilst maybe remembering a loved one of your own who has passed after having cancer.

All funds raised will enable the development of clinical trials to discover new combinations of treatment to provide other Cancer sufferers with a more positive outlook on their life. Indeed, every penny raised will go towards benefiting other families in their struggle against this illness; continuing to prolong people's lives in a more comfortable way with the hope of a greater understanding and combination of treatments.

Thank you for taking the time to support this cause.
