My cute as a button little nephew, Mikaere, was born with Nonketotic Hyperglycaemia (NKH). It’s a rare metabolic disorder with no cure and limited treatment options. Only 500 children live with the disease worldwide.
With NKH Mikaere suffers from frequent seizures and since birth has been in and out of the hospital. It's a terminal condition so unfortunately we don't know how long he will be with us, but he is a little fighter and I want to fight for him too!
So I am going to be running my very first marathon in Istanbul on the 12th November 2017 to help raise money towards Joseph's Goal, the UK's only NKH charity. I've been training for the marathon since May and it has been quite a challenge! Running in 30 degree heat (I hate to complain...but!), being caught out in numerous storms, getting tear gassed, being lost for 2 hours in the back streets of Istanbul, endless hills and weaving my way through some of the 15 million people that live here in Istanbul!
As you can see, this is, and will be a huge challenge for me so I would be eternally grateful if you could show your support to Joseph's Goal, a charity close to my heart. Any donations will go towards research into NKH, which will have a positive and direct affect on the future for my nephew Mikaere and others who suffer from the same condition.
