Story

Every year, our Parish of Fen Drayton with Fenstanton chooses a charity to support throughout the year and this time it is Mission to Seafarers. However, Covid-19 put paid to our first event in March and the lockdown continues. Normally, in May, a friend and I do a sponsored cycle ride to link in to the charity and this would have taken us to Felixstowe. However, that cannot happen so the plan is to use my cumulative exercise cycle mileage since the start of the Global Challenge on April 2nd to try to raise funds in this way and it would be great if you could help achieve this. The Global Challenge is 90 days between April 2nd and July 31st so my 90 days are April 4th - July 3rd. So far, it stands at 424 mls so I aim to get a lot more pedalling done!

Please, please help towards the target.

Around the world, The Mission to Seafarers provides help and support to 1.5 million men and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat. Piracy, shipwreck, abandonment and separation from loved ones are just a few of the difficulties merchant seafarers face. Covid-19 has added to the already challenging circumstances. Seafarers face isolation, fatigue, and prolonged periods away from home, approximately 20% have contemplated suicide or self-harm, according to a recent Yale University study. At this challenging time, it is even more important to highlight the plight of seafarers worldwide and to support them through this crisis.
