Story

I work for Birtenshaw and have been known by colleagues as someone who hates exercise and never does it.  Recently though, after a significant birthday, I decided it was time to get fit.

The challenge I have faced to get fit is nothing compared to the challenges faced by disabled people everyday.

Birtenshaw is a charity that provides a unique range of services for children and young adults with special educational needs and disability to support them to achieve their potential. The charity's  vision is to ‘Brighten Lives and Build Futures’ for the people we support in Bolton, Liverpool, across the North West and beyond.

Birtenshaw's Mission is:
To empower people to live a fulfilling life using person centred approaches built on respect, innovation and sustainability. To respond to the changing needs of disabled people through dedication to continuous improvement, supporting more people and becoming judged in all areas as outstanding.

A 10k run is a challenge for me but I am inspired by the challenges that I see disabled young people overcome every day of my working life.
