We raise life-changing funds to enhance care at UHS

Story

Nobody should have to deal with having a baby born with a birth defect or being in the NICU but the reality is that it happens and without our beautiful NHS, many families would not have babies to take home.

Remy was born with a malrotation of the bowel - when the bowel doesn’t form correctly in the womb and causes blockages and scarily often, death. In fact I got told that I should be prepared to ‘begin palliative care and say rest in peace’. Those exact words. Even thinking about it now brings back the memory of my whole world falling apart. He was a day old.

This isn’t a pity post. I am trying to make it clear that we are under no illusion that our baby’s life was saved and we are incredibly lucky that he is here today. Since we have been home I have connected with other mums with ‘malro babies’ and have heard of many unable to say they were so lucky.

This is primarily down to the surgeons, doctors and nurses who cared for him. They LITERALLY stopped my baby from dying.

So I need to give something back. On 13 August 2021 I will be throwing myself 15000ft out of a plane and it’s safe to say I am *terrified*.

All the money I raise will go to Southampton Hospitals Charity and towards the NICU that saved Remy’s, and countless other babies' lives. For me, not having Luke there due to COVID-19 was a nightmare, but they provided me with the support I needed to get through. Everyone there works so hard to help the babies but also the families struggling too. They are amazing people.

I know times are hard and everyone is struggling but anything you can give will be so gratefully received.

Thank you so much!
