Story
Hello everyone!
This September both of us will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with our Mum. Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free-standing mountain in the World; also known as the ‘Roof of Africa’. We will be taking the Machame route which is a 6 day trek to the Uhuru peak at 5895 meters (19,341 feet).
We have chosen to do this as a family in memory of our beloved father. Our father was born in Tanzania, so we wanted to undertake this challenging expedition in the country of his birth and explore the place that he cherished.
Our chosen charity is Vision Aid Overseas because our father suffered from three debilitating eye diseases, namely cataracts, glaucoma and retinal detachment.
- Did you know that glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness globally?
- Did you know that cataracts affect a third of the population over the age of 65 and most will require surgery? It is also one of the most commonly performed operations worldwide.
- Did you know that a retinal detachment is a vision threatening emergency and requires urgent care?
We are donating a large number of polaroid sunglasses to the locals which will help to protect their eyes from any U.V light exposure and enhance their vision especially whilst up on the sunny mountain.
We would appreciate any support/donations from our family and friends to help us take on this challenge and help raise money for a good cause.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story. Your support and kindness is very much appreciated.
With love, Jyoti & Amisha xx
