My brother Lee is 18 and was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 12. Every day is a struggle for him to walk the tightrope of keeping his blood sugars high enough (so that he doesn't have a hypoglycemic attack which could kill him) but low enough (so that he doesn't suffer Diabetic Ketoacidosis aka DKA from consistently high blood sugar, which means the body attacks itself and could kill him!) but also so that his small blood vessels don't get clogged up and cause him substantial problems later on in life.
A lot of people think that it is the person's fault they have out of range blood sugars but that's not always correct, there are all kinds of factors that affect blood glucose, many of which are impossible to control, remember, or even account for such as: stress, lack of sleep, illness, diet, exercise
I have seen Lee suffering from hypos and DKA on many occasions and it's horrible and very scary to see him like that. Lee also has other health conditions which can affect the Diabetes.
If I could just raise some money for this great charity, it could help to find a cure for this awful condition so that Lee and many other current and future sufferers may get some help. I know it's a drop in the ocean but we've got to start somewhere.
