Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In June last year my good friend Kev was diagnosed with inoperable Cancer. It was devastating. Kev carried this news with unbelievable strength, dignity and humility.
Not long after the diagnosis he became quite unwell and was moved to a hospice for 10 days. Many of us feared the worst. What happened was nothing short of magic. The wonderful staff at Pembridge, working together with the hospital and Kev worked out a pain management plan and other things to get Kev back on track. Kev came out of the Pembridge a new man. With their help and continued support he went back to work for a time (a job he loved), travelled extensively far and wide to see and say to goodbye to friends and family and enjoy life. which he always did - and being gravely ill was no exception.
Unfortunately the Cancer came back with a vengeance and Kev died in May this year. As were his wishes, this happened at Pembridge surrounded by friends and family.
I will be forever grateful for the extra time Kev had, largely I think, due to their care. I Would like to say thank you and raise some money, in Kev's memory in order that they can do this remarkable work for other people affected by this horrible illness.
So, on September 16th this year I will take part in the Dart 10k. Not a run - a SWIM. Its a marathon distance swim in the beautiful river Dart in Devon. It will hopefully take me about 3 hours... its not insignificant for me as the longest distance I have swum to date in 4km.. also, I suffer from Raynaud's and am badly affected by cold water so i'm not sure how my hands will hold up to that distance and time in the water!
I would be so grateful if you would spare a penny or a pound or 2 for Pembridge - a wonderful and life affirming place. So they can carry on their important work with terminally ill people and their loved ones. THANK YOU.
