Story
Dementia is slowly rotting my dad from the inside. A once quiet, gentle and dignified man has been transformed into a wild-eyed, wild haired stranger. You can read a bit more about our experience here: https://teagohr.wordpress.com/2018/05/07/the-man-formerly-known-as-dad/
There is nothing I can do to slow or reverse his decline. But by raising funds for the Alzheimer's Society to help fund research into possible cures and to support sufferers and their families until a cure can be found, I can try to make a difference.
I've signed up to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 24th March. If you'd told me a year ago that I would run at all, let alone that distance, I'd have laughed in your face and poured another glass of wine. Until a year ago I was convinced I shouldn't run as I'd had surgery on both feet. "Oh, I can't do high impact exercise" I'd say, "I've got titanium pins in my toe joints". Then I discovered that Paula Radcliffe has had the exact same operation and my excuses were gone....
So here we are.
Winter run training is pretty gruesome. But I just imagine I'm kicking Dementia in front of me with every stride.
Please sponsor me for this crucial cause. Believe me, if my efforts helped to prevent even one person suffering what my dad is suffering and save one family from what we're going through it will all have been worth it.
