I'm undertaking the 3 Peaks Challenge with other members of the Old Northamptonian's rugby club for whom my sons play. 29 of us are setting out on June 11th to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and in 24 hours. It’s a massive undertaking and I'm finding the prospect very daunting, particularly since I've been put in  "minibus A" for the fastest walkers - most of whom are men with much longer legs than me! Training hasn't been great, I could barely move after one practice walk up and down Scafell in 3 and a half hours and I'm still sporting the bruises on my hip where I tripped and fell while out for a run after a night shift.

Matt Herbert is a fifteen year old member of the Old Northamptonians (ONs). In 2008 he was diagnosed with leukaemia and despite treatment, it returned in September last year. His only chance of survival was intensive chemotherapy, total body irradiation and a life saving bone marrow transplant. "Matt's Match" campaign was launched to try and find a donor for him through the Anthony Nolan Trust. Bone marrow recruitment clinics were organised in and more than a thousand people were added to the world wide register.

Matt’s own match was found in Europe, from an unrelated anonymous donor, but from those clinics in another bone marrow match has been found for someone who desperately needed it.

My involvement in Matt's Match, seeing what his family was going through and the urgent need for a bone marrow transplant has made me appreciate the vital work done by the Anhtony Nolan Trust.
