London Duathlon · 26 March 2009

10,500 people in the UK have ataxia which is a progressive neurological condition that disrupts the messages sent from our brains to our muscles that are used to move, speak, listen and see. Ataxia UK funds research into finding treatments and a cure and provide support until they are found.

Story

Hello,

I did it! I completed the London Duathlon in 2 hours 13 minutes:  9km run in 47 mins / 20km bike in 56 mins / 5km in 26 mins. Very pleased with my self and a bit sore!

Not content with breaking myself in the Duathlon I am also doing the Loony Dook on New Year's Day with my sister Linda - yes, we really are going to jump in the Firth of Forth in the middle of winter, and yes I am going to moan about it for a long long time. I can't even cope with a little bit of rain in summer.

You can decide what event is worse, and donate accordingly!

Where your money goes

Ataxia is a degenerative neurological condition that affects people of all ages. Please help us to support those affected.

To ensure that this money will not be going to my wages, I will be donating the money to our Welfare Grants section. These grants are distributed each year to help people with ataxia purchase the aids and equipment they need to make their lives easier. This includes wheelchairs, computers and communication software, driving aids and respite care. Welfare grants are essential in enabling people with ataxia to retain independence and access aids they would not be able to buy themselves.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Ataxia UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
