Story
I am not a strong swimmer, but in the summer of 2021 I plan to swim the distance of the Channel Swim (21 Miles) over the space of one week. If I have my maths right (which I wish I didn't) this is 100 50 meter lengths a day for 7 days. AKA - Loads of swimming.
The plan will be for the week of August 30th - September 5th, that a different lovely human will swim with me each day so that I don't get bored, lonely, or drown. This also means extra fundraising opportunities! Hooray!
A close and exceptional friend of mine has worked for Safer London for a number of years. Often over a glass of wine she shares with me the incredible work they do to protect and support young people across London. Working frontline with young people in a number of central London schools, I often feel helpless in the face of the issues they are experiencing - despite the many government funded professionals around them they continue to be at risk of violence and exploitation. Safer London are a small charity, who work tirelessly across a number of projects to target these issues. This is, therefore, my desperate attempt to feel helpful!
"We're on a mission to make London safe for the young people who live here. By working with young Londoners, their families and peers, as well as they places where they spend their time, we can create a safe London not just for them – but everyone. We believe that all young Londoners can have a positive and productive future. Whatever their history, when a child or young person comes to Safer London, they are just that – a child or a young person. We work alongside them to help unlock their potential, so they can move forward positively."
