We fund life saving medical research to beat the world's biggest killers.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation's research and I'd be so grateful for your support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives. It's only thanks to support from people like us that the BHF can create new treatments and discover new cures. £24 could pay for two hours of research by an early career scientist, but every pound helps so please give what you can to help me hit my target. Thanks!

In January 2021 I will turn 60 years old. Then on the 17th March it will be the 10 year anniversary of my husband Dan passing away. Also after becoming a widow, sadly many of my friends have also lost their partners. I have also sadly lost my mum and dad.So I want to do something in remembrance of them all.

So I have decided to set myself a big Challenge. I'm going to walk The South West Coast Path.It considered to be the UK's ultimate challenge for long distance walkers. Its a 630 mile (1000 km) adventure around the Southwest peninsula. I will start in Minehead in Somerset and finish in Poole in Dorset. It will take me 45 days, walking an average of 14 miles a day. This doesn't sound much, but I will cross many valleys and it has been estimated that I will climb the equivalent of nearly four Mount Everests! When I started raising money in memory of Dan for The BHF , it started with me trekking to Everest Base Camp. I have completed many other challenges including trekking, kayaking and cycling. But its important to me that I return to walking, because its when I walk that I have time to reflect and remember: Dan,mum, dad,Ged,Graham,Tony,Mark,Jenny,Chris,Cyril. And the walk will take me through five areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and one National park. I can't think of any better way to pay my respects and raise money for The British Heart Foundation

I have raised over £23,000 for The British Heart Foundation. If you would like to make a donation it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Kate Hughes
