Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Back in January I set a new years resolution that by the end of the year I would have run a half marathon. Back then, I could barely run for 13 minutes, let alone 13 miles, but I like to keep busy & love a challenge! Although I started off running for mainly personal reasons, I decided that I would enjoy it even more if I could help others in the process.
I began as a listening volunteer for the Samaritans in January 2016. Since then I have witnessed first hand the amazing work that Samaritans volunteers do for others. Being a volunteer is not easy - however it is one of the most rewarding things I have done and I thoroughly enjoy being part of such an invaluable organisation.
On average, over 6,000 people take their own lives by suicide each year across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland. This is 6000 too many and Samaritans are working around the clock to try and reduce the number of people who die from suicide.
Samaritans work around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They respond to people in crisis and people who can often not bear the thought of carrying on. Often these people have nobody else that they feel they can turn to. Thousands of calls are answered and responded to each week. However, many calls continue to go unanswered as the number of calls received continues to rise.
On 17.09.17 I am taking part in the English half marathon and am fundraising on behalf of the Samaritans. All donations made will go directly to the Samaritans and will contribute to all the incredible work that they do each day.
