Story

“The thing most likely to kill me is me” If you are a man under 45 this is a fact. Just let that sink in for a minute. Every week 84 men take their own lives. That’s 12 men a day, and suicide is now the biggest killer of men under the age of 45. This isn’t okay and we have to make a change.

Matthew’s Story.

On May 28th our world fell apart when Matthew took his own life. He was 33 years old.

A son, a brother, husband and a father to two beautiful children he adored. On that day everything changed and all that we knew was that nothing would ever be quite the same again.

Matthew battled and conquered addictions in his early 20s; he remained sober for over a decade and invested much of his spare time supporting those battling with their own mental health issues and addictions, sponsoring countless men and women over the years. He helped so
many that were suffering, many of whom credit Matthew for being alive today thanks to the time and love that he gave so freely. He helped save so many, but was ultimately was unable to save himself.

Not a day goes past when we don’t think of him and talk about him. We continue to share treasured memories of the time we shared with, but there is no getting past the massive hole his passing has left in so
many of our hearts.

We didn’t reach Matthew in time, but I’m hoping we may be able to help others in the same situation. It is for this reason I have managed to persuade of two of wonderful friends Jenn & Nicole to take on the Three Peaks Challenge with me in Matthew’s memory. Our main aim is to raise awareness of the epidemic that is male suicide, whilst raising funds for The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) - an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide.

So this is where we ask for your money!! This is a cause very close to my heart, and one I hope will never be close to yours.
Please support us on our journey and donate whatever you can spare to this very worthy cause. Any donation great or small will contribute towards saving lives.

Here’s some of the wonderful work CALM do and
what your donation will go towards:

·        Challenging a culture that prevents men seeking help when they need it,
through campaigns such as #ManDictionary and #BiggerIssues

·        Supporting those bereaved by suicide, through the Support After Suicide Partnership (SASP), hosted by CALM, which aims to ensure that
everyone bereaved or affected by suicide is offered and receives timely and
appropriate support

Thank you for taking the time to read, please continue to share our journey and donate xx
