Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

So, having originally planned to scale Kilimanjaro in March 2020 we then moved this to September 2021 for obvious reasons.  Sadly, and for the same annoyingly obvious reasons, we are having to reschedule again.  With Tanzania being on the red list, no travel companies are able to send us out there.  We have therefore re-booked for September 2022, by which point the vaccination program in Tanzania should look far more healthy.  Andy and I remain focused on honouring my beautiful Daughter Emily's memory and you kind folks who've so kindly sponsored us.  WE WILL GET UP THAT HILL!!!

John and I have been friends for over 20 years now, we have shared some of the best times of our lives together and also shared some of the darkest.....but that is what true friends do.

In November 2013, 21 month old Emily, John and Sara's daughter, passed away from acute viral bronchiolitis very suddenly.  Since that day, John & Sara and Nia & Dave Brammer (Emily's Aunty & Uncle) decided to set up The Emily Ffion Trust.  The trust was set up to not only raise awareness of this condition but also to raise vital funding for specialist equipment used across North West treatment centres to treat Bronchiolitis and other respiratory conditions.

Specialist equipment purchased to date includes numerous high tech oxygen machines and video laryngoscopes for the Countess of Chester Hospital's Children's Ward, a Cuddle Cool Blanket to provide after-life care for Claire House Children's Hospice, specialist health monitors for North West and North Wales Paediatric Transport Service (NWTS) and some Defibrillators for local youth sports teams and community centres.  John and his fellow Trustees also hope that by supporting Children's Hospices they can help families cope with bereavement and childhood loss.

John has done countless distance runs and completed his 5th London Marathon since 2013 in April 2018, and will partake in his 6th in October 2021.  This however could be his biggest challenge yet!

Andrew is not a runner but enjoys hiking in the mountains, which should stand him in good stead for what is set to be an enduring challenge.  Even though many people take on the challenge of Kilimanjaro, the success rate is still only around 85%.

Andrew, since driving to the Gambia in a car worth under £100 back in 2003 for Claire House, has not undertaken any fundraising challenges, until now.

For Andrew it was the perfect challenge to accompany John on, and between them, they hope to raise a whopping £10,000 (now changed to £15,000 based on us exceeding this initial target!!).

It is only with the support of family and friends that we will be able to complete the challenge and raise the funds we wish too.  This is a self funded trip with 100% of the money raised going to the Emily Ffion Trust.

If there is any particular part of the challenge, an idea, a costume, a business that you would like to sponsor  us then please get in touch and we would be happy to look at anything to raise those vital funds.

Also any ideas on how to maximise our fundraising capabilities or any ways in which you would like to get involved, please get in touch.

Please give generously and please spread the word.

Thank You

John & Andrew
