Story
I'm going sober for the month of October to raise money for Woman's Trust.
Woman's Trust's mission:
"The consequences of domestic violence are many – depression, low self-esteem and a sense of powerlessness. We are here to listen, help and support you."
Woman's Trust in particular hold dear to my heart because of all the support they provide for women going through all kinds of domestic abuse and violence, providing a necessary crutch for those who need it.
I wish I'd had the knowledge or resources to reach out to such a charity in the time in my life where I needed it most. Having gone through emotional abuse, I know how much I'd have valued help of this sort if I'd have known how necessary it was at the time.
For that, I want to not only raise money for the charity itself, but help raise awareness so that those who don't realise what they're going through is abuse have more resources available to them.
For me, going sober for a month is a personal challenge, having used alcohol more than I ever realised as a coping mechanism when things became most tough. This is the beginning of taking a step back from my own drinking, and helping a good cause in the process.
£8 provides an hour of childcare, allowing a women to attend counselling.
