We offer care, support and information to anyone affected by breast cancer

Story

Just before Christmas in 2016, I found a lump whilst lying down in bed. Exactly one month later, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Age 27.

Due to my surgery to remove the tumour and six rounds of chemotherapy, my favourite hobby of trekking had to be put on hold. My treatment meant my fitness levels were at zero, so heading back to Mount Snowdon, for me, will be quite a challenge. It's one of my favourite places in the world and to be on the summit again will really mark a new chapter in my life.

I will be taking this on with 100 people that have kindly followed and supported my journey to make up Team LaidBackLumps. We are coming together to celebrate the end of my treatment but also to raise awareness to others about being breast aware and to remember to check lying down.

I found my #LaidBackLump by lying down but the advice I had read was to check in the shower. I want everyone to know their body so they can easily identify any changes and get them looked at by a doctor as early as possible.

If you are unable to join us physically on our Snowdon adventure but would like to be involved, I would be delighted if you could donate to Breast Cancer Care. Throughout treatment, I have been supported by Breast Cancer Care in a variety of ways. On the day I was diagnosed, I was given numerous information booklets to help me digest the news, the lovely nurses on the Helpline supported me throughout the process, and I spoke to two wonderful volunteers through their 'Someone Like Me' service. Lastly, I attended their Moving Forward course after treatment to help me cope and adjust to life after Breast Cancer.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for supporting me through these 8 months.. you've all been such superstars.
