Why do I want to help?

On the 29th September 2018, I will be climbing Snowdon to help raise money for the charity, Lymphoma Action. Lymphoma is a blood cancer of the lymphatic system and is the fifth most common cancer. In 2015, at the age of 25, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma knowing very little about the disease and its symptoms. These can include, enlarged lymph nodes, night sweats and extreme tiredness. After successful treatment, this September will mean I’ve reached my third year of complete remission!

Despite going through a tough ordeal I consider myself quite lucky as I had a great support network made up of my friends and family. Others may not be so lucky, so that’s why I want to help support Lymphoma Action. Being told you have cancer is a frightening experience that no one should face alone. Not only are you fearful of what the future may hold, but questions race through your mind as to what this will mean for you and your family. As well as to help raise awareness, Lymphoma Action is a great source of information and support for all those affected by the cancer. Whether that is the individual themselves, a friend or family member. Being prepared for what you have, what chemotherapy and radiotherapy will bring, and how much it will all impact the life you were living. This is where a good support network is key to helping anyone pull through their experience and come out stronger on the other side.

This is my way of helping to give something to others who have also been affected by this cancer. It is also setting myself a personal challenge emotionally and physically. So hiking boots at the ready!!
